More Info about the Lykewake Holiday Cottage and the surrounding area.

In the north York moors national park sits this wonderful 18th century renovated farmhouse.

Just 6 miles from the village of Great Ayton boyhood home of captain James cook the royal navy navigator and discoverer of Australia.

The navigator and explorer, Captain James Cook spent his boyhood in the village of Great Ayton.

He attended the Postgate School, now converted into the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum (open April - October). He worshipped in the 12th Century All Saints Church (open afternoons April - October). The cottage formerly occupied and probably built by Captain Cook’s father was dismantled in 1934 and now stands in Fitzroy Park, Melbourne, Australia. In its place is an obelisk built of stone taken from Point Hicks, Australia. A monument to Captain Cook stands in a prominent position on Easby Moor.

As this delightful holiday cottage is set right on the edge of the north York moors it is and ideal stepping stone to explore the moors and surrounding villages,  market towns, and scenic places.
